A former PAS member has challenged PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar to a debate over the alleged misappropriation of RM403mil in funds during the Barisan Nasional administration in the state.
Zainon Ismail, who goes by the pen name C.N. Al-Afghani, also author of “Kafirkah Aku?” book said the claims were unfounded and were meant to mislead the people.
“The party has been making baseless allegations in other states but I can prove that the accusations by PAS are false,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Zainon issued the challenge to Mahfuz, who is also Pokok Sena MP, and asked the latter to decide on venue and time for the debate.
The allegation raised by Suara Anak Muda Kedah, or also known as ‘Bongkar 403 Juta’ group alleged that Barisan had misappropriated the funds during their administration of 11 projects, which among others are Jerai International Park, 99 East and Taliworks Langkawi projects.
Last month, it was reported that former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid urged the group to lodge a report with the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission over the allegations.
