PAS’s non-Muslim candidates not a threat: Mukhriz

SUNGAI PETANI (April 14, 2013): PAS's strategy to field non-Muslim individuals as its candidates in the 13th general election (GE13) is not a big threat to Barisan Nasional (BN).
Kedah Umno liaison committee deputy chairman Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir (pix) said he viewed the strategy as PAS's response to the plan made by its ally, DAP, to field Malay candidates.
"When DAP decides to field Malay candidates in Kedah, it is somewhat threatening to PAS. So now, PAS is also planning to let non-Malay and non-Muslim individuals contest on its ticket in Johor.
"Whatever it is, we don't see it as a big threat. What matters is BN will field candidates who are credible, experienced and who deserve to be elected, to face them. We are prepared to face anybody," he told reporters after attending the BN Youth's Save Kedah Rally at the Sungai Petani Uptown Market here on Saturday night.
Johor PAS announced on Saturday that it would field two non-Malay individuals, who are supporters of the PAS Supporters Congress, to represent the party in the general election.
Mukhriz also advised former military officers who have ventured into politics and are planning to contest in the general election on the Opposition ticket to be careful in making statements and not to disclose classified information about the country.
He said such classified information, if leaked, could threaten national security.
"As a country where the government is formed by the people, we are the only Asean member country which is not under military rule. So, I'm worried that what
the Opposition is doing now will change the country and the atmosphere of peace and harmony that we have been enjoying all these years," he added. – Bernama
