Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is confident of winning 11 parliamentary and 19 state seats in Selangor.
PKR Selangor vice-chairman Zuraida Kamaruddin said today based on the party's projections, it expected to sweep all the parliamentary constituencies in the state that its candidates are contesting and possibly concede only two out of 21 state seats.
She, however, declined to name the two seats. PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had on Sunday announced that PKR will contest 21 state seats and 11 parliamentary seats in Selangor.
Zuraida also said PKR's preparations in Selangor for the general election are 95% completed.
"The other 5% is just for us to apply the finishing touch to our preparation and campaign," she told a press conference at PKR headquarters today.
She also said 30% or seven of 21 PKR candidates for state seats in the May 5 polls are women, something that Barisan Nasional had failed to do before.
"Five out of the seven candidates are incumbents, including me, while another two are fresh candidates," she added.
The lineup for the parliamentary seats involve five new faces – law expert Dr Aziz Bari (Sabak Bernam), grassroots leader Manivanam Govindasamy (Kapar), PKR investment bureau chief Wong Chen (Kelana Jaya), PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli (Pandan) and Khalid Jaafar (Hulu Selangor).
As for the state seats, seven new faces will be fielded.
They are Borhan Aman Shah (Dengkil), Lee Chin Cheh (Kajang), Dr Daroyah Alwi (Sementa), Hamidi A. Hassan (Semenyih), Tengku Marziah Tengku Sulaiman (Kuang), Ramachandran (Batang Kali) and PKR Federal Territory chief Dr Idris Ahmad (Ijok).
P. Manikavasagam, who holds the Kapar seat, will move to the Bukit Melawati state seat while interim Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will contest in Port Klang, switching from Ijok.
