Explain China investment, Penang told

Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) has called on the state government to explain a RM3.14 billion investment in Wuhu, Anhui Province, China.
State BN information chief H’ng Khoon Leng said the investment was made in June 2011 and asked the relevant authority to give a full account of the project including the investment value.
“What is the progress of the project? The people of Penang do not seem to know anything about it,” he said at a press conference at state BN headquarters today.
According to a translated handout of a report by the Wuhu Daily, the project was titled Penang Electronic Park and situated in the Wuhu Economic and Technology Development Zone.
The report said the state government and other companies were to attract technology companies to manufacture electronic equipment like handphones, computers and touch screens at the park.
The Malay-language translated copy stated that the agreement was signed by Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mansor Othman and Wuhu District deputy secretary Pan Chaohui.
H’ng also wants to know why there has been limited coverage of the investment in the local media while it grabbed headlines in China.
When contacted, a spokesman for Mansor said a press conference will be held tomorrow to explain the matter.
