Malaysians fighting in Syria war

MERCENARIES': Malaysians hired by terrorist groups, says Syrian nun

PETALING JAYA: A  SYRIAN abbess yesterday came out with a shocking claim that a number of Malaysians have been employed as mercenaries by terrorist groups in her country's  civil war.
In revealing what had transpired in the war between armed opposition and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government, Mother Superior Agnès-Mariam de la Croix said Malaysians were among thousands of foreign mercenaries indoctrinated to take up arms in a holy war.
The peace activist told the New Straits Times that she had been informed the guerillas were recruited in January last year from some 80 countries, including Libya, Tunisia, Turkey, Pakistan, Australia and Yemen.
Mother Agnès-Mariam was here yesterday to talk at a conference focusing on the Syrian civil war, in an event jointly organised by non-governmental organisation International Movement of a Just World and Institute of Strategic and International Studies.
"I bet that they did not even know that they were in Syria.
"These mercenaries have been brainwashed into believing that they are on the path of jihad, but I know that jihad does not involve spilling the blood of innocents.
"And now they are part of terrorist groups wreaking chaos in Syria," said the Catholic nun of Greek descent.
She claimed the recruits were flown to several countries for armed training before heading to Syria.
The terrorist groups used their international network to bring the recruits to Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon where they were trained and brought to Syria only when they were deemed battle-ready, she said.
On Malaysia, Mother Agnès-Mariam said the nation could learn from the conflict by avoiding violence and extremism from creeping into the people's minds.
She lauded the government for promoting unity among the people of various races.
She said Malaysia could testify to the world on the fact that nothing could be built out of hatred and discrimination.
"Malaysians have a great tradition of tolerance, openness and conviviality.
"You are (living in) a pluralistic society and you have planned to live together in peace and harmony."

Harap Malaysia ambil iktibar apa yang terjadi di luar sana dan janganlah ada rakyat Malaysia yang cuna nak mengeruhkan lagi keadaan di Syria yang senang bergolak itu...

Provide DAP delegate list

DISCLOSURE: Former branch chief urges two leaders to name people in CEC elections

BUTTERWORTH: FORMER Jalan Bagan Luar DAP branch chief G. Asoghan has challenged  DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and the party's national organising secretary, Anthony Loke, to furnish two lists of delegates involved in the controversial central executive committee (CEC) elections in Penang last December.
The first, he said, was for all the 2,576 delegates eligible to vote, and the second, those who had actually attended the elections.
"Why are they taking so long to reveal the lists? If there is nothing wrong with the delegates' attendance, then why is it so difficult for them to reveal it?" he asked.
He said the party should prove its transparency by forwarding the list of names to DAP leaders Datuk Teng Chang Kim, Boo Cheng Chai, Chow Kon Yeow, Ngeh Koo Ham and Nga Kor Ming, as well as to the public.
Asoghan also demanded that the party explain the alleged presence of 547 illegal delegates.
"We also want to know if it was true that there were 547 illegal delegates from Penang who had attended and had cast their votes during the CEC elections, and there were 1,300 eligible delegates who were not notified to attend the party CEC election."
Asoghan also called on Lim and Loke to respond to claims that the actual number of DAP delegates not notified of the CEC elections was 1,300 and not 753 as reported earlier.
"Lim and Loke must prove DAP's transparency by revealing the list of names of the 1,823 delegates who had attended and also the list of names of the 753 people who were not notified to attend the election," Asoghan said during
Asoghan said many grassroots members were anxious to know the truth behind the allegations of manipulation during the CEC election.
It was reported earlier that the Registrar of Society (RoS) did not recognise the party CEC's results, following complaints lodged by party members unhappy with irregularities found in the party's election results the party attributed to a "technical" glitch.
The glitch had caused party activist Vincent Wu to be moved to the 26th spot from his original sixth position, giving way to Lim's political secretary Zairil Khir Johari, who was originally in the 39th position, to move up to the 20th spot in the CEC election at the party's national congress in Penang on Dec 15 last year.
The party was also lambasted when 753 Indian members claimed that they were not notified of the CEC elections despite being eligible delegates.

MBSA pays dues to avoid seal -off

SHAH ALAM: An attempt to seal the Shah Alam City Council's (MBSA) headquarters here was called off yesterday after it paid a portion of its dues at the last minute.
Lawyer Jeremy Khalif Lee, who declined to disclose the sum paid to his client, managing director of Menara Biru Sdn Bhd, said the court bailiff was scheduled to seal the headquarters at noon yesterday. He said MBSA still owed a sum in damages.
The company was earlier contracted to revive an abandoned housing project for the council officers. In 2009, the High Court ruled in favour of Menara Biru while ordering the council to pay the company a sum in costs and damages. The case was later reprised in the Court of Appeal. However, when MBSA did not make any payment, Menara Biru applied for a writ of seizure and sale in March.
The company's managing director, Fadzilah Abdul Hamid, said he was disappointed with the outcome.
"I was hoping for a seal. The cost of the project that was completed in 2002 was initially about RM4 million.
"I was paid RM1.5 million in stages, but I have been waiting for the rest of the money since I first engaged the arbitrators," he said, adding that the costs he incurred had also increased over the period.

MBSA pulak kisahnya, yang PKNS pun rasanya tak selesai lagi..Pak Menteri silalah jawab.

PKNS to proceed with luxury condo project despite objections

The Datum Jelatek luxury condominium project by the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) will proceed despite objections from a group of original residents.

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, in answering a question from Shuhaimi Shafiei (PKR-Sri Muda), at the Selangor state assembly yesterday, said the tender for the project had been awarded and compensation had been paid to the original residents.
"There are 14 original owners who are still against the project but the court has allowed the takeover of the original site.
"However, I think they will end up asking for the same compensation given to the original owners who did not bring the case to court."
PKNS offered between RM250,000 and RM300,000 in compensation to flat owners and between RM450,000 and RM500,000 to shoplot owners of Taman Keramat flats to make way for the RM1.2 billion development near Embassy Row in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
He denied allegations that the mixed high-rise development project would open room for excessive foreign ownership in the area.
He said PKNS would not sell less than 50 per cent of the 337 condominium units to Bumiputeras, adding that this quota was higher than the 30 per cent quota for Bumiputeras set by the Federal Government for property developers in Kuala Lumpur.
"We have received 1,029 applications from Bumiputera buyers."
