Kedah MB: New Merc S-Class for VVIPs, not me

Kedah MB: New Merc S-Class for VVIPs, not me

Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak claimed that the Mercedes-Benz S350 bearing the number plate KCX 8 bought by the state government is not for his use, but for VVIPs visiting Kedah.

According to Sinar Harian, Azizan said that the vehicle has been used to accommodate former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad during his visit to Kedah and the Johor crown prince when he was attending a training for a week in Kuala Nerang recently.

NONE“It is true that we have bought the car but it is more for the guests of honour who visit this state, not just for me. I prefer using the old KBV 8 bought by the government. Even though that car always breaks down, even in Kuala Lumpur, but I still use it,” he explained.

The menteri besar also denied claims that he tried to hide thenew vehicle, instead said that the car is rarely used because its main purpose is to serve as an official car for the VVIPs.

According to him, throughout this year only one car has been bought for the use of the menteri besar, whereas another five Toyota Camrys and four Toyota Fortunerwere bought in 2010 to replace faulty official vehicles.

Azizan also stated that he prefers travelling to official events in Kuala Lumpur by car instead of taking flights, and it is proper to have two cars so that the journey would not be interrupted.

“Travelling by car is more economical compared to flying. I am doing this for convenience. With flights, schedules might be delayed. So as a government leader, I do not like to do things like that because it will affect the state’s business. I prefer using the car because it is easier for us to make arrangements,” he said.

Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ) Director Ahmad Musadad Sulaiman confirmed that the Mercedes Benz KCX 8 was bought by the state government.

“KCX 8 was registered on 20 June 2011, whereas KBV 8 was registered on 5 April 2006. Both cars are under Kedah state secretariat,” said Musadad.

Previously, Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang had accused Azizan of wasting public funds on the vehicle which he said cost RM850,000 brand new.

Ulama speak out against Pas' misguided teachings

SETTING RECORD STRAIGHT: Several Pas ulama have abandoned party for teachings gone astray

KUALA LUMPUR: SEVERAL ulama who had given their life to Pas' struggles have distanced themselves from the party, saying that it had gone too far astray.
The religious scholars yesterday spoke openly about the misguided teachings of Pas in the hope that those who strongly believed that "Pas is Islam and Islam is Pas" were objective enough to see beyond Pas' carefully stage-managed Islamic image.
These ustaz, who have been pulling strong crowds to their ceramah sessions all over Kelantan, also claimed that they had been receiving death threats.
One of them, ustaz Shaidi Husin said he left Pas two years ago when it was clear to him that Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat had failed to practise what he had been preaching.
"The end came for me when Nik Aziz insulted the religion and the Prophet when he said there was no point celebrating Maulidur Rasul and that the money collected would be put to better use by doing up the toilet of a surau."
Shaidi said prior to that, he and a few other ulama had also brought an assemblyman before Nik Aziz after the former was caught with somebody's wife and admitted to adultery.
"It surprised us when Nik Aziz told us that he had a message from Allah that the serving assemblyman had been forgiven," he said, adding that he was forced to divorce his wife when he abandoned Pas' struggles as he had made the Bai'ah pledge against doing so.
Shaidi claimed that uztaz Rujhan Abdul Rahman and ustaz Zainal Abidin Awang, who focused their ceramah in Kelantan to dispel the belief of many Kelantanese that embracing Pas was their ticket to heaven, had a bounty on their heads.
Zainal said although Pas insiders told him that his blood was "halal" by virtue of him being declared murtad by Pas (for going against the party's beliefs), he would not be stifled by the threats as he was duty-bound to set the path straight for those who had been misguided by the party.
However, he admitted that it would be an uphill task as the party's consistent indoctrination of its ideologies to the people was hard to break.
"It was during a state meeting in 1990, when Pas was returned to power in Kelantan, that Nik Aziz "decreed" that he should be called 'Tok Guru'.
"One of the exco members argued that he shouldn't use the title as he was a teacher and not an ulama.
"His response then was he would just be a political ulama and that it had to be done so that Pas would not lose Kelantan to Barisan Nasional again. He then issued a state government circular on his 'new title'.
"The stage was set from the start and many Kelantanese are taksub (obsessed) with Nik Aziz and thought that he could do no wrong. It borders on absurdity as many would go to the extent of drinking the water Nik Aziz uses to wash his hands."
The Islamic scholars, some of whom are still Pas members, gathered at a hotel here to talk to the press yesterday.
They were unison in their stand that they could never accept Pas being in cahoots with DAP.
Shaidi and former Pas life member Zainon Ismail, whose pen name is CN Afghani and who was also present yesterday, revealed a plot to kill former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Shaidi and Zainon said they were trained in southern Thailand and Afghanistan respectively and were ready to use their skills to end Dr Mahathir's life as he was seen as the party's biggest threat then.
Shaidi said he was all set to lay 15 self-made bombs on a stage where Dr Mahathir was scheduled to give a speech during the Semerak by-election campaign in the late 1997. However, he failed to get access to the area as the then prime minister's security detail was impenetrable.
Both are scheduled to meet Dr Mahathir today for a tell-all and seek forgiveness.
Meanwhile, Zainon and another ustaz, Syamsul Mohd Yusoff Al-Hafiz, said there was no disputing that voting for Pas was haram as the party's teachings were against those of Islam.
"Pas' kind of Islam is one that could be shaped according to their political needs and mileage... even if it means compromising the religion and embracing non-Islamic teachings, they will do it as they have proven.
"It is, therefore, a sin for Muslims to choose Pas," Syamsul said.

'Don't fall for DAP's empty promises'

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek yesterday cautioned the Chinese community in Johor not to be deceived by DAP's empty promises that it will bring about change to the state.
He said DAP, in its ongoing campaign to wrest control of the state from Barisan Nasional, was merely providing false hope to the people to gain their support.

"DAP is planning to attack Johor with all guns blazing and they're doing so by falsely promising the Chinese there that it would bring change to the state," Chua said at the MCA headquarters here yesterday.

Present were MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, vice-presidents Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen and senator Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai.

He said DAP was only trying to hoodwink the people by saying that it would turn Johor into another Penang, currently controlled by DAP.

"The DAP wants Johor to emulate Penang's success story, but is it really a success story? Its chief minister (Lim Guan Eng) boasted that the foreign direct investment in the state was ranked among the top in the country in 2010 and 2011.

"However, he will never talk about Penang's FDI last year because it had dropped by 73 per cent."

"Recently, there was a major investment worth RM2 billion, but it never materialised because investors no longer have confidence in the Penang state government. Penang's gross domestic income also recorded a negative growth from 2008 until 2010.

"In terms of job creation, the government in Penang provided 20,000 jobs in 2011, but that figure plunged by half last year."

Guan Eng 'biggest joke of GE13'

FACE-OFF IS OFF: Teng not surprised by DAP sec-gen's decision not to contest in Padang Kota state seat

PENANG Barisan Nasional chief Teng Chang Yeow said he could sense the fear in DAP secretary-general and chief minister, Lim Guan Eng, in doing battle with him in the 13th general election.
Teng said he was not surprised that Lim had backed off from facing him in the Padang Kota state seat.
He described Lim's decision not to face-off with him in the polls as the "biggest joke of the 13th general election".
"I feel sorry for him but more so, I feel sorry for DAP," Teng, who is also Gerakan secretary-general, told a press conference at the state BN headquarters yesterday.
Padang Kota was Teng's former constituency where he had been the state assemblyman for three terms before losing the seat to Penang DAP chairman, Chow Kon Yeow, in 2008 by a 1,661-vote majority.
Teng said he had anticipated from the start that Lim would withdraw from contesting against him as Lim, he said "is not brave enough to face multiethnic voters".
"He cannot be rhetorical about being a Malaysian leader and yet, dare not face a multi-racial composition seat. How then can he proclaim himself to be a Malaysian leader?" Teng asked.
"I have been stressing that this contest is about policies and not about individuals."
He added that he had accepted Lim's challenge after a KiniTV interview quoted him as saying "it was up to him (Lim) to contest against me".
"Susan Loone was the journalist who interviewed me and later wrote a story which led to Lim challenging me. I accepted the challenge to contest in a multi-racial seat," Teng added.
When asked to respond to Lim labelling him as a "circus performer", Teng retorted, "Then why didn't he jump into the ring?
"Doesn't that make him a circus performer or clown?"
Teng also brushed aside Lim's allegations that he was subservient to Umno.
"This is nothing new as DAP has always accused every leader from (the late Tun) Dr Lim Chong Eu's time as being subservient to Umno."
At a separate press conference earlier, Lim, in ending the battle, said he decided to call off the potential face-off.
Describing it as a "circus performance", Lim said he felt he was deceived by Teng's political games in challenging him to contest the Padang Kota seat.
Lim said he did not want to waste time and entertain Teng any more.
"It is status quo for me as I will be going back to my Air Puteh state constituency and the Bagan parliamentary constituency."

EX Pas man wants to debate Mahfuz

A former PAS member has challenged PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar to a debate over the alleged misappropriation of RM403mil in funds during the Barisan Nasional administration in the state.
Zainon Ismail, who goes by the pen name C.N. Al-Afghani, also author of “Kafirkah Aku?” book said the claims were unfounded and were meant to mislead the people.
“The party has been making baseless allegations in other states but I can prove that the accusations by PAS are false,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Zainon issued the challenge to Mahfuz, who is also Pokok Sena MP, and asked the latter to decide on venue and time for the debate.
The allegation raised by Suara Anak Muda Kedah, or also known as ‘Bongkar 403 Juta’ group alleged that Barisan had misappropriated the funds during their administration of 11 projects, which among others are Jerai International Park, 99 East and Taliworks Langkawi projects.
Last month, it was reported that former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid urged the group to lodge a report with the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission over the allegations.
