No conflict, says Raja Nong Chik

Federal Territory Umno deputy chairman Datuk Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin (pix) has denied allegations of conflict of interest in his owning of shares in an offshore company called RZA International Corporation.
He denied being a "prominent" shareholder of the offshore company which was connected to another Malaysian company called Kumpulan RZA Sdn Bhd.
In a statement today, Raja Nong Chik, who is also the Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister, replied to report by an online portal on April 5 claiming that he was among the 1,500 Malaysians who owned "secretive" offshore companies in Singapore and the British Virgin Islands.
Raja Nong Chik said he did not set up the company along with his siblings as alleged in the online article.
"RZA International Corporation was set up by my father, Raja Zainal Abidin Raja Tachik on Aug 21, 2007. He established the company for the purpose of making legitimate offshore investments for the family. (The company) was de-registered because it did not make any offshore investments."
The process was done before he became a minister in April 2009, Raja Nong Chik said.
"For the record, I am not a director or a shareholder of any other offshore company," he reiterated.
The Umno Lembah Pantai chief said his father started his business in 1974 and formed Kumpulan RZA Sdn Bhd in 1979. He built up the family business through dedication, commitment and honest hard work.
He stressed that his father had chosen to distribute the shares of RZA International Corporation before he became a minister.
The shares had also been distributed to his mother, siblings and his late brother's children, he said.
"It was and remains his choice (and his choice alone) how he deals with his investments and distributes his wealth to his family."
