Former Pahang PKR leader upset at being overlooked

Former Pahang PKR vice-chairman G. Ponnusamy is sore that his party has chosen not to defend the Bentong seat.
Instead, the party allowed DAP to field Himpunan Hijau chairman Wong Tack to contest there.
Ponnusamy was the party’s candidate in the parliamentary seat at the last general election, when he secured 12,585 votes against Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who garnered 25,134 votes.
Wong’s candidacy under the DAP banner was announced by partysecretary-general Lim Guan Eng at a press conference yesterday.
“Being a local, I had been optimistic of securing a win for PKR at the next polls. I was looking forward to being fielded again,” said Ponnusamy when interviewed here yesterday.
He added that he was now seriously considering contesting as an independent candidate, accusing state PKR chairman Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman of trying to destroy the party as he was a former Umno leader.
“Instead of appreciating the efforts and contributions of grassroots leaders and founding members, we are sidelined and made to feel unwelcome,” said Ponnusamy.
He added that there were also attempts to remove him as a party member but he continued to remain loyal to PKR.
Considering the latest development, Ponnusamy said he was prepared to face expulsion. When contacted, Fauzi refused to comment.
