PKR state exco man drawing flak over ‘racy’ event in Kedah

ALOR SETAR: Calls for action to be taken against PKR state executive councillor Lim Soo Nee for allowing scantily-dressed women to perform at a Chinese New Year event in Kulim are mounting.
State Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Paduka Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah described the dancers dressed in skimpy clothing as “too much” and said they had offended other communities.
“Though he (Lim) is trying to rebut statements made by Barisan leaders on the strict public entertainment guidelines, the performance has angered Kedahans.
“Action should be taken against him (Lim),” he said in Yan here yesterday.
Gurun MCA assemblyman Dr Leong Yong Kong said the “juicy” performance showed that Lim was ignorant of Chinese culture.
“Why does Lim and PKR assume that scantily-dressed women reflect Chinese culture?
“They seem to be ignorant of Chinese culture, norms and values,” he said in a statement.
He added that the public performance would give PAS extra ammunition to further impose its hardline beliefs on non-Muslims.
Meanwhile, PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had reportedly said the party would investigate the matter and take action if the performance was inappropriate.
Meanwhile, Lim, who is also Kulim assemblyman, said he is prepared to be investigated over the matter.
“I am ready to bear any action taken against me but so far, I have yet to be contacted by the central leadership,” he said.
During the event on Saturday at Taman Sago in Kulim, three female performers dressed in “bikini-like” tops with short skirts revealing their backs, legs and bellies had danced to hit songs such asGangnam Style.
However, Lim had said that the women were dressed that way because they were “street stage performers” (kotai).
PAS state exco Datuk Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi said the performance had breached the dress code and the matter would be investigated.
