Developer given two weeks to repair cracks

The Selangor state government has given the developer of the Indahria Apartments in Section 22, Shah Alam, two weeks to repair the deep cracks running across the apartment's parking lot.
In a press statement today, Housing, Building Structure Administration and Squatters Committee chairman Iskandar Abdul Samad said the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) engineering division has been tasked with negotiating a solution with the developer and monitoring the repair works at the site.
Iskandar cautioned that should they fail to comply and resolve the issue at hand, the state government would complete the task themselves and charge the cost of the undertaking back to the developer.
He said the decision was made after MBSA presented the case during the Selangor Economic Action Council meeting on Jan 30.
He was responding to recent news reports that the apartment's 1,000 residents believe the cracks pose a danger to them, after appeals made to the local council and developer for the past five years were ignored.
Indahria joint management body chairman Hishamudin Ali, when met by theSun yesterday, urged the authorities to quickly repair the cracks.
The cracks were first spotted at the parking lot, located just metres away from Sungai Damansara, after the residents received the keys to their homes in March 2009, he said.
